The University of Reading is rich in history. Established in 1892, it then received its Royal Charter in 1926 - giving it the power to award degrees. Throughout the years, the University has established itself as a place with great links to businesses and a reputation for research and quality of teaching. Reading is currently ranked 29th out of 84 UK universities featured in the QS World University Rankings, 2020. Students are among a community of more than 5,000 overseas students from over 150 countries. The University of Reading makes the effort to ensure all students are integrated well with a number of societies available for students of different faiths on campus, as well as societies that reflects different interests. The University location offers students the best of both worlds: a campus based environment set within 130 hectares of beautiful parkland, while being only a 30 minute train ride to London Paddington station. Students can choose from more than 350 undergraduate and postgraduate courses, with 98% of the University research conducted deemed to be of international standing (REF 2014). In order to help with fees and funding, the University of Reading offers Chevening Scholarships; these are awarded to outstanding students who have been identified as potential future leaders across a number of fields. The scholarship programme - which is funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office - has over 44,000 alumni around the world. The University also offers a range of other scholarship schemes for foundation, master and postgraduate study. The University of Reading has invested more than £500 million to create cutting-edge facilities for its students and staff. For example, Reading has invested heavily in their library, offering access to excellent study facilities and more than 1 million books. It has also invested in a state-of-the-art campus in Malaysia, giving students the chance to study part of their course abroad. This not only widens the reach of the University, but also makes UK study experience more flexible and accessible.
